United Way of Fort McMurray
$5,000,000 Goal Achieved!

$5,094,088.84 and still counting!  The total confirms that the United Way of Fort McMurray has surpassed their goal for 2009!

200 volunteers and community leaders cheered as the final tally for the 2009 United Way Campaign was revealed last night. The Sawridge Inn & Conference Centre sponsored the United Way Volunteer Recognition event as a way to celebrate the campaign volunteers for all their hard work and commitment.

… and celebrate they did; singing a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday to The United Way that has been in our community for 30 years now and raised over $39.5 Million.  Moments later, as balloons dropped down, everyone cheered the 2009 campaign total.

There are workplace campaigns still underway and the United Way will continue to collect pledges until December 31st, but has officially reached their goal at the close of the public campaign on November 20th.

With the slogan “I Believe in Possibility” and a strong belief in this community reaching out in troubled times, the United Way set a goal of raising $5 million dollars.  Funds will be invested to build capacity in agencies and in programs that support families, youth, seniors, and individuals suffering from illness, poverty and homelessness.
