FORT MCMURRAY, AB – The United Way announced this morning that their 2019 Community Campaign raised $4.65 million.  Campaign Chair, Ken Sandmoen, delivered the news.

“On behalf of United Way Board of Directors, staff, and our agency partners, we would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the 2019 Community Campaign,” said Sandmoen.  “Your donations are integral to solving unignorable issues in Wood Buffalo, and $4.65 million will go a long way in addressing these issues.”

The Community Campaign- which ran from September until the end of the year- marked 40 years of United Way campaign in the region.  It engaged individuals, families, and workplaces throughout Wood Buffalo, who stepped up to show their local love through donations of money, gift in-kind, time and energy.

“We have an exceptionally giving community which has allowed United Way, in conjunction with our partners, to strengthen the social infrastructure of Wood Buffalo for 40 years,” said Sandmoen.  “In this time, over $100 million has been invested to help our community’s most vulnerable.”

With $4.65 million raised, this year’s campaign saw the first rise in campaign funds since 2014.

“This result exemplifies the tremendous support our community provides towards meeting our social profit areas of greatest need,” said Steve Yatauro, Board President. “It takes a real team effort to deliver this result in the face of continuing challenges in our regional fundraising space.  Thank you to everyone involved in our campaign.”
